Help the Garden Win Funding For Our Native Plant Demonstration Garden

The Kruckeberg Botanic Garden is now a contestant in the Rain Bird Corporation’s Intelligent Use of Water Awards. Our project, a Pacific Northwest Native Plant Demonstration Garden, is eligible to receive a $10,000 award. Awards are based on public support and the number of online votes received on the Rain Bird website.

Website visitors can vote for projects (one vote a day per project) until the contest ends on March 15, 2012. The projects with the most votes will receive funding from Rain Bird according to their funding category. Rain Bird will award four $1,500 projects, three $5,000 projects, and three $10,000 projects.

The Pacific Northwest Native Plant Demonstration Garden will promote the ornamental value of native plants and educate the public about gardening with natives. Using native plants helps reduce water and chemical use, provides wildlife habitat, and promotes environmental stewardship. Installation of the garden is planned in 2012.

Established in 2008, the Intelligent Use of Water Awards program recognizes individuals and organizations that work to raise the standards for water use efficiency through improved outdoor water conservation.
