A Free Public Garden Just Outside of the City

KBG Welcome SignThe Kruckeberg Botanic Garden is a public garden containing a unique blend of Pacific Northwest native plants and unusual exotics in a naturalistic, wooded setting. Located in Shoreline, Washington, the Garden was founded in 1958 by Dr. Arthur Kruckeberg and his wife Mareen, who amassed the plant collection over 50 years in the property surrounding their home.

The Garden is now owned by the City of Shoreline and operated by the Kruckeberg Botanic Garden Foundation (KBGF), a nonprofit organization.

 An On-site Propagating Nursery

Cyclamen

The on-site MsK Rare and Native Plant Nursery carries native plants and hardy exotics that are well suited for a Northwest garden. We propagate many of the plants growing in the garden in the nursery allowing for you to take a piece of the Kruckeberg Botanic Garden home with you to plant in your own garden. MsK Nursery is open when the Garden is open, Friday - Sunday, 10 am - 5 pm.

Dr. Kruckeberg: In His Own Words

Dr. Kruckeberg, co-founder of the Garden, turned 94 in 2014. The City of Shoreline and the board of the Kruckeberg Botanic Garden Foundation wanted to honor “Dr. K," as he’s affectionately known, by creating a video “In His Own Words," as only he can be.

Dr. Art Kruckeberg passed away on Wednesday, May 25th, 2016 at the age of 96. We all will miss him dearly.

Read Art's obituary here, and another article about him here, and a piece in the Everett Herald here.

You may make a donation to the Kruckeberg Botanic Garden Foundation in Art's memory here, and make sure to include a message in the "notes" field.
